Everybody who graduates from college has a perfect future scenario of what life will be like for them, armed with their new sheepskin and scads of unrealistic expectations. Unfortunately, not all plans go as intended.
That’s the basic premise for Post Grad.
When new college grad Ryden Melby, played by Alexis Bledel(one hot piece of you know what), gets her degree, she assumes that her future will be pretty rosy, considering that she worked so hard and got decent grades. Instead, the job she hoped to get is taken by fellow grad and rival Jessica , portrayed by Catherine Reitman(Daughter of Ivan, sister of Caroline and Jason). In a predicament that many real life college grads in similar situations can relate to, Ryden ends up having to move back home and apply for jobs she loathes. She also has to put up with her less-than-perfect family, including Dad, Walter (Michael Keaton), Mom, Carmella (Jane Kynch), Brother, Hunter (Bobby Coleman), and Grandma, Maureen (Carol Burnett). Ryden finds sanctuary with college buddy, Adam (Zach Gilford), who is secretly in love with her(that’s pretty original).
Does she eventually cope and come out on top by picture’s end? All things being predictable, it doesn’t take much to figure out the answer.
Thus far, some other reviews of Post Grad have been less than complimentary, despite the cast including such comedy heavyweights as Keaton and Burnett. Okay, so it isn’t up there with the best and it certainly won’t make anybody’s “Best of” list, but, if you just take it as a nice piece of likable fluff, perhaps it will be palatable to you.
However, while this may be a mildly amusing flick, you might be best advised to “wait for cable”.
