I ordered “Knowing” the other night on demand, and have to say I rather enjoyed it….most of it, anyway.
The Plot
Man(Nick Cage) opens time capsule dug up at his son’s(Chandler Canterbury) school and discovers a paper full of numbers predicting future disasters including the end of the world. Man figures it out and witnesses one of these disasters. He begins telling people. Nobody believes him. Son is mysteriously stalked by creepy, whispering blonde guys, who turn out to be aliens who have come to rescue him and another child before Earth goes bye-bye. Earth doesn’t quite end, but is left in pretty bad shape, and the children are saved by the aliens. The end. Riveting wasn’t it?
The Good
- Nick Cage’s performance was very believable, as usual.
- Chandler Canterbury gives a pretty good performance as Cage’s son, except for this one scene(I’ll cover this later).
- The special effects were impressive.
- Earth wasn’t magically saved through some out-of-this-world miracle.
The Not-So-Bad
- The ending scene before Cage’s son gets on the ship to be saved wasn’t very moving, thanks to Canterbury’s bad attempt at crying.
- There was no “I’m-about-to-be-dead-so-let’s-go-get-naked” scenes(deranged, I know).
The Kinda’ Ugly
- The fire in the plane-crash scene was quite fake-looking and kind of took away from the moment.
